Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Medicine (Lake Forest Hospital and Grayslake Emergency Center), PRN, Rotating

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Emergency Medicine departments at Lake Forest Hospital and Grayslake Emergency Center. This is a PRN position with rotating 9 or 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and possibly holidays.

Clinical Setting

You will provide direct clinical care in a fast-paced emergency medicine environment, working collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to manage a wide range of acute health problems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
• Provide direct clinical care to emergency patients
• Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine their need for further healthcare
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate
• Serve as a consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
• Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives
• Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
• Serve as a preceptor and role model to students
• Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to emergency medicine
• Maintain a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school or college of nursing (for Nurse Practitioners) OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
• For FNPs: Must be able to obtain Emergency Medicine certification
• Current RN license in Illinois (for Nurse Practitioners)
• Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in Illinois (for Nurse Practitioners)
• APRN certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board (for Nurse Practitioners) OR Current PA license in Illinois (for Physician Assistants)
• Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification as specified by department
• Controlled substance license and DEA registration as specified by department

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of Advanced Practice Provider experience in Emergency Medicine

Schedule

• PRN position with 9 or 12-hour shifts
• Must have flexibility to rotate days, nights, weekends, and possibly holidays
