Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Cardiothoracic Surgery

Kootenai Health is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the cardiothoracic surgery team. This is a full-time position with variable scheduling in a growing program at a Magnet-designated, 330-bed not-for-profit regional medical center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

You will work alongside four cardiothoracic surgeons and three other advanced practice professionals in a high-volume program. Last fiscal year, the program performed 375 open heart surgeries, 140 thoracic procedures (including robotic-assisted), and 168 transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs).

Clinical Setting

Kootenai Health is a Level 2 ACS trauma center and a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital according to Truven Health Analytics. The facility features:

• Two dedicated cardiothoracic operating rooms with specialized staff
• State-of-the-art hybrid operating room
• Two da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems
• Five dedicated, fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologists
• ECMO and mechanical circulatory support program
• More than 20 cardiologists including interventional, structural, and electrophysiology specialists
• Outreach clinics throughout ten northern Idaho counties

Responsibilities

• Provide first assist during cardiothoracic surgical procedures
• Perform vein harvesting for coronary artery bypass grafting
• Assist with robotic-assisted cardiac surgery
• Collaborate with the cardiothoracic surgery team and multidisciplinary clinical staff

Required Qualifications

• Board certification or board eligibility as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cardiac robotic surgery
• First assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
• Vein harvest experience
