Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Otolaryngology Endocrine Surgery team. This full-time position offers a hybrid practice model combining ambulatory care, operating room participation, and limited inpatient responsibilities. You will provide primarily ambulatory care for return endocrine surgery patients, including postoperative follow-up visits and longitudinal patient management.
Clinical Setting
This position is based at Lake Forest and Grayslake locations within Northwestern Medicine.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- No weekends or holidays
- Daytime call coverage approximately one day per week
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient health assessments including health histories and physical examinations
- Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
- Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
- Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care
- Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as consultant in areas of expertise
- Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
- Maintain professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation
- Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives pertinent to the specialty
- Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
- Serve as preceptor and role model to students
- Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
- Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to the specialty
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited school or college of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
- For APRNs: First Assist Certification
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license and current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board, OR current Illinois Physician Assistant license
- Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
- Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience in ENT, Endocrine, or Surgical Specialty
