Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (with RNFA) - ENT/Otolaryngology, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the ENT/Otolaryngology team in a hybrid practice model combining outpatient clinic and inpatient care. This full-time position is based at Lake Forest and Grayslake locations.

Clinical Setting

You will work within a collaborative ENT/Otolaryngology department, providing care across multiple settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and the operating room.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including new patient assessments, follow-up appointments, and postoperative care in the outpatient clinic
• Provide inpatient and emergency department consultations
• First assist in the operating room as needed
• Perform health histories and physical examinations
• Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine need for further healthcare
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
• Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
• Maintain professional appearance, manner, and presentation
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
• Maintain required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces
• Develop and participate in continuing education programs for staff
• Serve as a role model and preceptor to students
• Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to the specialty
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for the patient population

Schedule

• Full-time position
• 4 ten-hour shifts per week, with flexibility to work 5 eight-hour shifts if preferred
• Participation in shared call coverage rotation among all APPs, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
• For Acute Care Nurse Practitioners: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
• For Acute Care Nurse Practitioners: First Assist Certification
• Current Illinois RN license and current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board, OR current Illinois Physician Assistant license
• Controlled substance license and DEA number (may apply once licensed)
• Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of APP experience
