The opportunity

Job Description

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Neuro Interventional Radiology team. This full-time position provides a combination of ambulatory/outpatient and inpatient care, supporting neurointerventional radiology patients through pre- and post-procedure visits, ongoing outpatient management, and assistance within the NIR lab.

Schedule

  • Four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday
  • Time divided between outpatient clinic responsibilities, inpatient rounding, and neurointerventional radiology lab procedures
  • Participation in a shared on-call rotation

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
  • Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
  • Prescribe/order medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures according to clinical privileges
  • Evaluate patients to determine their need for further health care
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
  • Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
  • Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
  • Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
  • Maintain a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
  • Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
  • Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to students
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to the specialty
  • Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for the patient population

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
  • OR: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program and current PA license in the State of Illinois
  • Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
  • Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of advanced practice provider experience
