Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Gastroenterology team. This full-time position provides care in both outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital settings, supporting a hybrid scope of practice. You will work with a group of 13 physicians and 6 Advanced Practice Providers across Central DuPage Hospital, Delnor Hospital, and a satellite clinic in Naperville.

- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Rotating Saturday schedule
- No call responsibilities
- Average patient volume of 13-15 patients per day

Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
- Provide direct clinical care to patients
- Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures according to clinical privileges
- Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
- Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
- Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
- Maintain a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation
- Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
- Maintain required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
- Serve as a role model for the "Patients First" approach
- Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
- Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff
- Serve as a role model and preceptor to students
- Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to gastroenterology
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for the patient population
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license (for NP candidates)
- Current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license (for NP candidates)
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board (for NP candidates)
- OR Current Illinois Physician Assistant license (for PA candidates)
- Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
- Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of inpatient APP experience
- Gastroenterology experience
