The opportunity

Job Description

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Gastroenterology team. This position offers a hybrid scope of practice, providing care in both outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital settings. You will work collaboratively with 13 physicians and 5 other Advanced Practice Providers, supporting patients across Central DuPage Hospital, Delnor Hospital, and a satellite clinic in Naperville.

Clinical Setting

You will practice in multiple locations including Winfield, Geneva, and Naperville. The gastroenterology group manages a diverse patient population across inpatient and outpatient environments.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Rotating Saturday schedule
  • No call responsibilities
  • Average patient volume of 13-15 patients per day

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
  • Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
  • Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
  • Evaluate patients to determine need for additional healthcare services
  • Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
  • Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
  • Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
  • Maintain professional appearance, manner, and presentation
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
  • Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
  • Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, and hospital committees and task forces
  • Serve as a preceptor and role model to students
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups in your specialty
  • Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for your patient population

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • For APRNs: Current Illinois RN license, current Illinois APRN license, and national APRN certification approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. Acute care certification required (inpatient NP experience may be considered in lieu of acute care certification). Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number.
  • For PAs: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program, current Illinois PA license, and ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number.
  • Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of inpatient APP experience
  • Gastroenterology experience
