We are seeking a Phlebotomy Patient Care Technician I to join our laboratory team in a fast-paced clinical environment. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy procedures for both inpatients and outpatients, collect and process patient specimens, and support laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick phlebotomy procedures including blood cultures, newborn screens, d-xylose and glucose tolerance tests, and other procedures as outlined in the Central Receiving and Processing manual
- Transport patient samples to the laboratory immediately after collection using approved methods (physical transport or tube station) before collecting the next patient
- Maintain the Kanban system by using the approved phlebotomy tray or cart and restocking per policy
- Answer telephone calls in a courteous and friendly manner; transfer calls, issue results, search for test information, and process test requests
- Manage phone calls in the Call Center and Defect processing lines; log into the phone system when assigned and utilize auxiliary modes as needed
- Participate in proficiency testing programs to validate competency as required
- Investigate complaints and troubleshoot instrumentation and process problems
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of phlebotomist experience
