University Health Truman Medical Center is seeking a Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive care to surgical patients in both the Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care throughout the surgical process, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and efficient transitions through each phase of their surgical journey.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a full-time position at University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, within the Recovery Room department. The schedule is 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM, 36 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Operating Room:
- Provide comprehensive care during surgeries, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and efficiency
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the OR team to deliver high-quality care
- Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments to ensure patients are physically and mentally prepared for surgery
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU):
- Monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia
- Manage post-operative pain and assess vital signs to ensure patient stability
- Provide support and education to patients and their families about the recovery process
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans
- Participate in the education and mentoring of nursing students and new staff members
- Contribute to departmental committees, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Current Missouri RN license or eligibility to obtain licensure
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, required and maintained
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, required within 90 days of hire and maintained
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, if required by department
- Radiology training received during nursing education or competency validation through assessment if radiology functions are part of the role
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Prior critical care or surgical nursing experience
- RN specialty certification such as CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) or CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
