Assabet Valley Collaborative is seeking Per Diem Registered Nurses to provide nursing coverage and support across three special education school programs serving students with complex medical, physical, developmental, and mental health needs.
This per diem position offers flexible scheduling based on program needs, including coverage for planned or unexpected nurse absences, field trips, special activities, and additional student support. You will work 7-hour school days alongside an experienced team of seven school nurses.
Clinical Setting
You may be assigned to work with:
- A small classroom of 3–7 students with significant medical complexity
- A program serving approximately 25–60 students with a range of physical and mental health needs
- Multiple programs as a "float" nurse
The three special education programs are REACH, Evolution, and Orchard Street Academy.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications, treatments, and other nursing interventions
- Implement student health care plans and medical protocols
- Provide seizure management and emergency response
- Support tube feeding and other complex health needs
- Monitor and respond to illnesses, injuries, and changes in student health
- Communicate with families, medical providers, teachers, and other staff
- Train and support staff in implementing student health plans and safety procedures
- Maintain appropriate nursing documentation and records
- Collaborate with AVC's nursing team and multidisciplinary staff
Required Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts RN license (LPN license may suffice with support from the RN team)
- Successful completion of an accredited nursing program
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with pediatrics, special education, schools, psychology, or individuals with complex needs
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing student and program needs
- Strong communication and follow-through
- Willingness to seek, receive, and provide clear and respectful feedback
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
Schedule and Compensation
Per diem assignments are based on the needs of AVC's programs. Schedule and frequency will vary based on program needs and your availability.
Compensation: $38–$78 per hour, based on degree and years of experience.
