Planned Parenthood North Central States is seeking a Per Diem Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the St. Cloud, Minnesota health center. In this role, you will provide clinical support within a reproductive health program, working under the supervision of the Health Center Manager. You will perform routine clinic duties, provide patient care, and support health center operations while advancing Planned Parenthood's mission of protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all.
Clinical Setting
This position is based at the St. Cloud health center (451 East Germain Street, Suite 100, St. Cloud, MN 56304). The clinic operates Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You may also be asked to provide coverage at other health centers in assigned neighborhoods as needed.
Responsibilities
- Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, document in electronic medical records, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Assess, address, or triage patient complaints and monitor vital signs
- Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture, communicate results, and ensure appropriate follow-up
- Provide factual, unbiased patient education on all FDA-approved birth control methods and selected contraceptive methods
- Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available in the event of an unintended pregnancy
- Provide factual, unbiased information to clients seeking abortion services and describe the differences between medication and surgical abortion
- Refer patients per protocol, perform follow-up functions, and ensure complete documentation of care plans
- Provide contraceptive supplies and medications including injectables
- Manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols
- Maintain inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, and tracking
- Communicate PPNCS protocols, policies, and procedures to clinicians and staff
- Maintain working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures
- Supervise nursing functions as delegated by the Health Center Manager or clinician/physician
- Participate in onboarding of new employees and cross-training of established employees
- Follow all state laws regarding mandatory reporting
- Administer mild and moderate sedation
- Assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability, and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-procedure as appropriate
- Perform ultrasound medical services in accordance with PPNCS Medical Standards and Guidelines
- Supervise and assess patient's post-procedure recovery
- Perform other clinical skills within the scope of training and applicable state laws
- Follow all federal, state, and local laws regarding mandated reporting, abortion services, healthcare services, and HIPAA
Required Qualifications
For Medical Assistant (MA):
- Completion of a Medical Assisting diploma program, or Associate degree in Medical Assisting, or current EMT/Paramedic licensure, or 6 or more months of experience as a Health Center Associate II at PPNCS
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate for healthcare providers
- High School diploma or equivalent
For Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):
- Active LPN License in Minnesota
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate for healthcare providers
Immunization Requirements
- Hepatitis B vaccination records and titers
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination records or proof of immunization
- Chicken Pox vaccination records or proof of immunization
- Tetanus shot documentation
- Tuberculosis PPD Skin Test no older than 12 months
Schedule
This is a per diem position with an anticipated 32 hours per month. Schedules are created and sent out 6 weeks in advance. You will have the option to pick up additional shifts, including at other locations beyond your home health center.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range is $20 to $25 per hour for Medical Assistants or $24 to $28 per hour for Licensed Practical Nurses, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on relevant work experience, skills required for the role, internal equity, market competitiveness, and budget considerations.
Shift Differentials
- $1.50 per hour for weekend shifts
- $3.00 per hour for evening shifts
- $4.00 per hour for float/travel assignments
- $2.00 per hour for bilingual services
- $3.00 per hour for ultrasound services

Employment Terms
This is an hourly, non-exempt position. This position is represented by SEIU (Service Employees International Union). Depending on state law, union dues will be deducted from employee paychecks in an amount up to 2.25% of gross pay.
