Job Description

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is seeking a Patient Transporter for the Operating Room to support the perioperative team in a fast-paced surgical environment. In this full-time position based in Carbondale, IL, you will facilitate patient transport, assist with operating room preparation and turnover, maintain a clean and safe surgical environment, and support efficient workflow through supply management and coordination with ancillary departments.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, escort, and transport patients and visitors to and from surgical areas in a courteous and professional manner
  • Assist surgical staff with operating room turnover, including room preparation between cases
  • Perform damp dusting in operating rooms prior to the start of scheduled procedures to support infection prevention standards
  • Clean surgical rooms, including changing linens on inpatient beds as needed
  • Assist with pulling surgical instruments for cases and preparing operating rooms for upcoming procedures or the following day
  • Handle and transport surgical specimens to the laboratory in accordance with established protocols
  • Monitor portable oxygen tanks and replace empty tanks as necessary
  • Promote cost-effective practices through appropriate use of supplies, returning equipment to designated locations, reshelving unused supplies, and reporting equipment malfunctions
  • Assist with the retrieval of blood products from the Blood Bank following established procedures
  • Remove trash from surgical areas and communicate effectively with Sterile Processing and Environmental Services
  • Stock and refill blanket warmers each morning, mid-day, and prior to the end of shift
  • Assist Environmental Services with cleaning the Operating Room Core, including wiping down sinks, mopping floors, removing trash, and cleaning unused equipment
  • Remove and transport empty boxes to designated disposal areas
  • Perform daily stocking of inner core supplies and fluid warmers to ensure case readiness

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

  • Intermittent hand manipulation required
  • Intermittent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds

Schedule

  • Days shift, full-time position

Compensation

  • $17.37 to $26.06 per hour, commensurate with experience
