Patient Care Technician/Sr Nursing Attendant - Emergency Dept Evening shift

Join NYU Langone Health's Emergency Department as a Patient Care Technician/Sr Nursing Attendant on the evening shift. In this role, you will assist professional nurses in providing competent, safe, and compassionate care to patients and families. You will complete assigned patient care tasks while supporting the unit in maintaining supplies, equipment, and a safe environment. This position is part of Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses in patient care delivery and support patients and families during hospitalization, procedures, and diagnostic tests
• Perform specialized clinical tasks including phlebotomy, fingerstick glucose testing, and electrocardiograms
• Collect data for quality and performance improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction measures
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
• Provide safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy
• Answer patient call lights promptly and assist with personal care and activities as appropriate
• Observe and report patient behavior and concerns to the assigned registered nurse
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the nursing unit, patient rooms, and patient care areas
• Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit
• Provide support to all team members including nurses, physicians, and other healthcare employees
• Assist patients in preparing for scheduled appointments and transport via stretcher or wheelchair
• Run errands to other departments including delivery of specimens and equipment
• Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards
• Secure patient personal property and handle valuables according to hospital procedure
• Participate in orientation of other patient care technicians and unit meetings
• Complete annual mandatory education requirements
• Recognize own limitations and request assistance when needed

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One of the following:
• Graduate of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) program with at least 6 months hospital experience
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with course completion in EKG and Phlebotomy, PCT certification eligible, plus at least 6 months hospital experience
• PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with at least 6 months hospital experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
• Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire
• Working knowledge of English in verbal, reading, and writing abilities

Alternative Path - Senior Nursing Attendant

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Nursing Attendant (CNA) with at least 6 months relevant experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry

• Salary range: $52,259 to $61,288 annually (actual salary depends on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need)
