Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant Unit 3600 Day Shift

Join Family Health Centers at NYU Langone as a Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant on Unit 3600, Day Shift. This role supports the professional nursing team in providing compassionate, safe patient care across our largest federally qualified health center network in New York State. You will assist with direct patient care tasks, maintain a safe and clean environment, and support unit operations while demonstrating NYU Langone Health's core values of equity and inclusion.

Clinical Setting

Family Health Centers at NYU Langone operates eight primary care sites, 40 school-based health centers and dental clinics, four day care centers, comprehensive HIV services, chemical dependency programs, and New York State's largest behavioral health program. Unit 3600 serves diverse patient populations with varying needs and cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse in providing competent, safe, and compassionate care to patients and families
• Perform specialized patient care tasks including phlebotomy, fingerstick glucose testing, and electrocardiograms
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures per unit protocols
• Collect data for quality and performance improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction measures
• Maintain patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights
• Observe and report patient behavior and responses to the assigned registered nurse
• Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy
• Answer patient call lights promptly and assist with personal care and activities as appropriate
• Provide assistance to patients in preparing for scheduled appointments and procedures
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the nursing unit, patient rooms, equipment, and care areas
• Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit
• Secure patient personal property and handle valuables according to hospital procedure
• Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards
• Support emergency situations as directed
• Participate in orientation of other patient care technicians and unit meetings
• Communicate responsively and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Run errands to other departments, including delivery of specimens and equipment
• Complete delegated responsibilities as directed by registered nurses
• Recognize own limitations and request assistance when needed

Required Qualifications

Patient Care Technician Track:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One of the following:
• Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience
• CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG and Phlebotomy with PCT certification eligibility and at least 6 months hospital experience
• PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with at least 6 months hospital experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
• Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire

Senior Nursing Attendant Track:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Nursing Attendant (CNA) certification with at least 6 months relevant experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry

Core Requirements for Both Tracks:

• Working knowledge of English demonstrated in verbal, reading, and writing abilities
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $52,259.00 - $61,288.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
