Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant - MICU Unit 4300 Part Time Evenings

Join NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn as a Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant in MICU Unit 4300. This part-time evening position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care support in a Level I trauma center and full-service teaching hospital. You will assist registered nurses in delivering competent, safe, and compassionate care to patients and families while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment.

Clinical Setting

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) serves critically ill patients requiring specialized monitoring and care.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse in patient care tasks and provide support to patients and families
• Demonstrate knowledge of NYU Langone Health Core Values and incorporate them into daily duties
• Respect patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights
• Maintain accountability for supplies, equipment, and environmental support
• Assist in data collection for quality and performance improvement programs, including patient satisfaction measures
• Recognize own limitations and request assistance when needed
• Participate in orientation of other patient care technicians and attend unit meetings and conferences
• Complete annual mandatory education requirements
• Demonstrate awareness of the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and different cultures
• Utilize specialized clinical skills including phlebotomy, fingersticks for glucose monitoring, and electrocardiograms
• Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
• Communicate responsively and supportively to patients, families, and staff both verbally and non-verbally
• Observe and report general patient behavior to the assigned registered nurse
• Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy
• Provide assistance to patients with activities of daily living as applicable
• Answer patient call lights promptly and effectively; complete requests for personal care assistance
• Report all patient observations to the professional nurse responsible for the patient
• Respond to delegated tasks as directed by registered professional nurses
• Provide security of patients' personal property and handle valuables according to hospital procedure
• Maintain cleanliness of the nursing unit, including utility rooms and unit refrigerators
• Provide direct assistance to all team members including nurses, physicians, and other healthcare employees
• Assist in preparing patients for scheduled appointments
• Run errands to other departments, including delivery of specimens and equipment
• Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit

Required Qualifications

Patient Care Technician:

• High school graduate or equivalent
• One of the following:
• Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience
• CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG and Phlebotomy with PCT certification eligibility and at least 6 months hospital experience
• PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with at least 6 months hospital experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
• Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire

Senior Nursing Attendant:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program and certified as a CNA with at least 6 months relevant experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry

General Requirements

• Working knowledge of English evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
