Patient Care Technician-Weekend Telemetry Part-Time Nights

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for weekend telemetry support on the night shift in a part-time capacity. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide basic patient care activities on a telemetry unit, supporting patient monitoring and comfort while assisting the nursing team with essential clinical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly
• Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a polite manner using appropriate telephone etiquette and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients
• Serve as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments
• Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed
• Perform pre-census and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities while functioning effectively in stressful situations
• Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work quickly as patient and unit needs change

Schedule

• Weekend nights, part-time

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One of the following: nursing student who has completed one clinical rotation, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• CPR - Basic Life Support certification

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to push and pull with force up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program
• Graduate of a Phlebotomy course
