PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Patient Care Technician to provide clinical support to the PATH Clinic under general supervision. In this role, you will work directly with the Lead Nurse Practitioner and Clinic Manager to assist health practitioners in delivering patient care. You will perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks in an outpatient clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support including taking medical histories, obtaining vital signs, performing point of care testing, and conducting venipuncture
• Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians and nurse practitioners during clinical procedures
• Collect, prepare, and dispose of lab specimens appropriately
• Perform laboratory tests and maintain records for point of care laboratory devices
• Arrange and prepare examining rooms with necessary equipment and instruments
• Perform medical charting, recordkeeping, and clerical duties such as typing
• Update medical records, answer phones, schedule appointments, and fax medical records as needed
• Ensure PATH Clinic compliance with all UAB regulations, including HIPAA and privacy requirements
• Perform other related duties as directed to support the IPCP model at the PATH Clinic

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of two years of outpatient clinic experience
• CPR certification required within thirty days of employment
• Demonstrated knowledge of PC applications and software
• Ability to chart, take blood pressures, perform venipuncture, and execute general medical and clinical office skills
• Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA regulations and guidelines
• Ability to work in accordance with School of Nursing (SON) and UAB policies and procedures
• Commitment to the UAB Enterprise Code of Conduct
• Successful completion of training for point of care testing and controls

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior patient care technician experience
• Phlebotomy experience

Schedule

• Day/1st shift
• Onsite work arrangement (final schedule to be determined by department/hiring manager)

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $15.00 - $19.50
