Patient Care Technician - UI Health Care Patient Monitoring

The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician to support the Virtual Patient Monitoring program. In this role, you will play a vital part in keeping patients informed and engaged by communicating the care provided by clinical pharmacists and supervising physicians. You will welcome patients into the remote patient monitoring program, track and document patient-generated health data, and maintain consistent communication with patients through MyChart or phone to share updates, instructions, and encouragement from the care team.

Clinical Setting

This position is part of the University of Iowa Community Clinics, which has served patients for over 100 years with a focus on health and wellness. The clinic provides comprehensive primary care including pregnancy and baby wellness, vaccinations, school and athletic physicals, acute visits, annual check-ups, mental health services, and on-site laboratory services. The Virtual Patient Monitoring program connects patients with clinical pharmacists and supervising physicians to deliver personalized, compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients to explain the remote patient monitoring program and assist with compliance of program requirements
• Maintain consistent communication with patients via MyChart or phone as directed by the care team, and direct questions to appropriate staff
• Direct patients to review education materials regarding monitoring devices and program participation as indicated by clinical staff
• Utilize EPIC and third-party software platforms to onboard patients, monitor data, and document patient interactions
• Review and track patient-generated health data, escalating abnormal values according to clinical protocols
• Ensure accurate and timely written documentation of all patient interactions and relevant clinical data
• Communicate effectively with clinical pharmacists, supervising physicians, and other care team members
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support optimal patient outcomes
• Prioritize and manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and institutional guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support program success

Required Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with familiarity of medical terminology
• Proficient typing and computer skills
• Ability to interact compassionately and professionally with patients and clinical staff
• Familiarity with EPIC EMR and Microsoft Office Suite
• CNA or HSP certifications
• Previous phone communication experience
• Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical hours and need

Schedule

• Full-time position: 40 hours per week
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Five 8-hour shifts
• Location: HSSB, Coralville, Iowa

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: $38,043.36 to $51,911.20 annually (hourly rate $18.22 to $24.90, based on years of experience)
• Pay Grade: 5
