As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in Telemetry, you will provide essential support to the nursing team and patients across hospital units and departments. This on-site position involves assisting with direct patient care, maintaining a clean and organized unit, managing supplies, and supporting administrative functions. You may care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Maintain department cleanliness and follow procedures for cleanup after treatments
- Assist with patient transfers, including those with weight-bearing restrictions or motor impairments
- Assist patients with wheelchair transfers as needed
- Assist patients with donning and doffing compression garments
- Observe patients for skin integrity issues and report problems to supervising clinicians
- Assist with removal of catheters and IVs and assist with phlebotomy within scope of practice
- Prioritize and problem-solve to meet changes in patient status and condition
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate staffing patterns
- Quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
- Serve as a resource to other staff and assist physicians with EMR order entry as needed
- Assist with dressing removal as assigned by supervising clinician
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting
- Assist patients with mobility and therapeutic exercises under clinician direction
- Follow all safety guidelines for isolation precautions and bloodborne pathogen policies
Discharge Support (if assigned to discharge unit)
- Assist patients in and out of vehicles as needed
- Support and reinforce discharge instructions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and community agencies
- Use the EMR for documentation and communication
- Assist with securing durable medical equipment (DME) as necessary
Administrative
- Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming administrative telephone calls
- Communicate effectively with callers to obtain complete and accurate information
- Assist in orientation and training of new PCT staff
- Work to ensure best practice among colleagues
- Maintain unit documents and charts
- Copy charts as requested
- Assist charge nurse with clerical duties
- Document objective patient data and care provided
- Document reporting of abnormal findings to supervising clinician
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current, unrestricted CNA or LNA license in Arizona
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- If you do not have an Arizona LNA license: Fingerprint Clearance Card application number required upon hire, with clearance card required within 90 days of hire date
- Competency in using computers and basic software programs
Additional Information
This position is on-site only. You will work under the supervision of the charge nurse, clinical manager, and/or director. You must follow all Northern Arizona Healthcare policies and procedures and perform duties within the scope of practice of a PCT.
If assigned to the Float/Flex Pool, you may be asked to work on any unit in the hospital that needs a PCT, change departments during a shift, or work as a Patient Safety Attendant based on organizational need. Call will be required for Float/Flex Pool positions.
