The Patient Care Technician supports the nursing team on the Surgical Step Down unit (4 North) by assisting with patient care, clerical functions, and unit operations. This full-time position works 0.9 FTE (72 hours biweekly) in a continuous quality improvement environment where you will maintain high standards of patient care, communication, and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Perform hourly patient rounding
- Process physician orders and enter written orders into Meditech
- Maintain chart organization and answer telephones
- Coordinate patient flow and information between departments in collaboration with the charge nurse
- Assist registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with all aspects of patient care and non-patient care activities within your scope of practice
- Assist with patient and family teaching as appropriate
- Maintain supplies and equipment
- Enter daily outpatient and observation room charges
- Ensure cleanliness of the unit and order supplies as needed
- Comply with all safety and infection control standards
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and clarify unclear communications
- Use proper channels of authority when communicating information
- Assume responsibility for your own behavior and complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (will be obtained during hospital orientation)
- Current compliance with RQI requirements
- Interpersonal skills, clerical ability, numerical and manual dexterity
- Color vision and near visual acuity
- Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics
- Ability to read, write, and perform math at a high school level

- Full-time, 0.9 FTE
