Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our Stepdown unit. You will provide direct patient care under the guidance of registered nurses and designated healthcare professionals, supporting patients across all age groups from neonates through geriatrics in a regional tertiary care facility.
Clinical Setting
St. Vincent Medical Center is a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, STEMI Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center serving a 150-mile radius of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The facility partners with Nationwide Children's Hospital of Columbus to provide specialized pediatric care.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic patient care including comfort measures, vital sign measurement, personal hygiene assistance, and mobility support
- Act as a liaison between patients and nursing staff, reporting changes and concerns
- Deliver high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
- Document patient care information accurately and timely when applicable
- Participate in hand-off reports regarding patient and departmental needs at arrival and departure
- Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated
- Mobilize patients using therapeutic transfer techniques that promote independence and safety
- Encourage patient independence in completing activities of daily living
- Individualize care based on patient interests and hobbies
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of one of the following: nursing aide training program, STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) certification if required by Ohio long-term care regulations, CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) certification, state nursing aide testing, completion of a nursing program with one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation, or one year of relevant experience in a clinical setting
- BLS Basic Life Support certification (must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility, with preference for the setting in which you are applying
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training
- BLS certification upon hire
Required Skills
- Clear communication with healthcare team members
- Ability to understand and follow directions from healthcare team
- Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations including falls prevention, skin breakdown prevention, suicide prevention, and environment of care
- Knowledge and demonstration of infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
- Understanding of clerical duties and office-based technology
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Patient data collection and documentation including vital signs, intake/output, and changes in patient condition
- Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care
- Ability to assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition
- Ability to assist with bowel and bladder elimination
- Ability to assist with ambulation and patient mobility
- Use of clinical technology
- Accountability for completion of assigned tasks
- Escalation of concerns via appropriate chain of command
