Patient Care Technician / Senior Nursing Attendant - Medicine Telemetry, Part-Time, Days

Join NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island as a Patient Care Technician or Senior Nursing Attendant in our Medicine Telemetry unit. This part-time, day-shift position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care support on a 591-bed university-affiliated medical center serving as a major regional healthcare resource.

In this role, you will assist registered nurses in delivering competent, safe, and compassionate care to patients and families. You will complete assigned patient care tasks while maintaining a patient-centered approach that recognizes the challenges of hospitalization, procedures, and diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses in patient care delivery and support unit operations
• Perform specialized clinical tasks including phlebotomy, fingerstick glucose testing, and electrocardiograms (EKGs)
• Answer patient call lights promptly and assist with personal care and activities of daily living
• Observe and report patient behavior and condition changes to the assigned registered nurse
• Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy
• Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
• Collect data for quality and performance improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction measures
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the nursing unit, patient rooms, and equipment
• Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present and functional in patient care areas
• Support emergency situations as directed
• Participate in orientation of new patient care technicians and attend unit meetings and conferences
• Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Provide security for patient personal property and valuables according to hospital procedure
• Run errands to other departments, including delivery of specimens and equipment
• Complete delegated responsibilities as directed by registered nurses
• Demonstrate respect for patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights
• Demonstrate accountability for supplies, equipment, and environmental support
• Recognize own limitations and request assistance when needed

Medicine Telemetry unit at a university-affiliated medical center offering sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care across virtually every medical and surgical specialty.

Required Qualifications

For Patient Care Technician:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One of the following:
• Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience
• CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG and Phlebotomy with PCT certification eligibility and at least 6 months hospital experience
• PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with at least 6 months hospital experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
• Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire

For Senior Nursing Attendant:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience
• BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry

General Requirements

• Working knowledge of English demonstrated in verbal, reading, and writing abilities
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Compensation

• Senior Nursing Attendant: $26.79 per hour
• Patient Care Technician: $30.57 per hour

Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. Compensation does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
