The Patient Care Technician supports the nursing team in providing direct patient care on a medical-surgical unit. You will work closely with registered nurses and licensed practical nurses to assist with patient care activities, maintain unit operations, and ensure effective communication across departments. This is a full-time position working 72 hours biweekly.
Responsibilities
- Perform hourly patient rounding
- Process and enter physician orders into Meditech
- Maintain chart organization and order
- Answer telephones and manage clerical functions
- Coordinate patient flow and information between departments in collaboration with the charge nurse
- Assist with all aspects of patient care including hygiene, comfort, and safety
- Assist with unit cleanliness and supply ordering
- Support patient and family teaching as appropriate
- Enter daily outpatient and observation room charges
- Maintain supplies and equipment
- Comply with all safety and infection control standards
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and clarify unclear communications
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families based on empathy and trust
- Promote a positive patient experience
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ohio STNA certification required within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; will be obtained during hospital orientation
- Current RQI compliance
