Uvalde Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Respiratory Department on a PRN (as needed) basis. In this role, you will perform cardiac diagnostic procedures including 12-lead EKGs, rhythm strips, stress testing, and Holter monitor placement while providing compassionate patient care and accurate documentation.
Responsibilities
- Perform 12-lead EKGs and rhythm strips according to established procedures
- Assist with stress testing under physician supervision
- Apply and remove Holter monitors and event recorders and educate patients on their proper use
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and promptly communicate abnormal findings to the appropriate healthcare team member
- Explain procedures to patients and provide reassurance throughout the testing process
- Protect patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality during every interaction
- Operate and maintain EKG machines and other cardiac diagnostic equipment
- Accurately document test results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and hospital systems
- Prepare and route EKG reports to physicians for review
- Maintain accurate testing logs and patient documentation
- Follow infection control, safety, HIPAA, and hospital requirements
- Participate in continuing education and quality improvement activities
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current BLS certification for healthcare providers
- Completion of required EKG interpretation courses within six months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous EKG technician or healthcare experience
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified EKG Technician, or Certified Phlebotomy Technician credential
- Understanding of heart anatomy, EKG readings, and EKG equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and healthcare team members
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and focused while managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
