Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our psychiatric unit on a casual (non-benefited) night shift basis. In this role, you will provide direct patient care support under the supervision of a registered nurse, working with patients in a behavioral health setting.
This position requires a minimum of 6 months of solid CNA experience with additional experience caring for behavioral health patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities while functioning effectively under stressful situations
- Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work as patient and unit needs change
- Serve as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments
- Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a professional manner and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients
- Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed
- Perform pre-census activities and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school student with one semester of clinical completed
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 6 months of CNA experience
- Experience caring for behavioral health patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Phlebotomy experience
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program
- Graduate of a Phlebotomy course
