The opportunity

Job Description

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician (Per Diem) to provide direct patient care support across our 12 facilities in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. As a Patient Care Technician, you will work under the direction of licensed nurses to assist with patient hygiene, vital signs, specimen collection, patient transport, and other clinical support tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Clinical Setting

Mount Sinai Medical Center is South Florida's largest private independent not-for-profit hospital, operating a 674-bed main campus facility and 11 additional locations. The health system provides 38 medical services including cancer care, 24/7 emergency care, orthopedics, cardiovascular care, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of unit and patient rooms for admissions, transfers, and post-operative patients
  • Use proper body mechanics when positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulating patients; apply and use appropriate equipment as needed
  • Implement measures to reduce the risk of health-associated infections
  • Report changes in patient condition or behavior to the LPN or RN in a timely manner
  • Assist with admission, transport, transfer, and discharge of patients, including care of personal property and clothing
  • Ensure patient personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and as necessary
  • Provide catheter care daily and as needed; report pertinent observations to LPN or RN
  • Accurately take vital signs and record in patient record promptly; report to LPN or RN
  • Distribute water and record correct intake and output when indicated
  • Obtain and label specimens accurately (sputum, stool, urine) while maintaining precautions
  • Prepare patients for surgery and other procedures, including prep and clip, vital sign taking and recording, assisting with bathing or voiding, and removing and securing dentures, jewelry, and other belongings
  • Weigh patients as assigned; record weights and alert RN to any significant weight gain or loss
  • Make frequent patient rounds at least every two hours; reposition for comfort and offer bathroom assistance
  • Assist RN with post-mortem care, including labeling and securing patient valuables
  • Provide patient care as directed by licensed nurse, including enemas, sitz baths, applying and removing ice bags, K-pads, binders and pelvic/buck's traction, blood glucose monitoring, and simple dressing changes

Required Qualifications

  • CPR Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Additional Requirements

  • State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred
  • If assigned to the nursing cost center 6 DE HMT SOUTH, you must obtain a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment
