Patient Care Technician - Pediatric Oncology Inpatient - PT Evenings with Benefits (3:15pm-11:45pm)

This is a part-time Patient Care Technician position in Pediatric Oncology on the inpatient unit, working evenings from 3:15 PM to 11:45 PM. You will function as a caregiver for pediatric oncology patients, providing direct and indirect care as part of an interdisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of registered nurses. The role focuses on expanding your knowledge and skills while promoting patient satisfaction, comfort, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety criteria appropriate to pediatric patients
• Obtain and document clinical data including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, notifying the RN immediately of abnormal results
• Perform venipuncture and blood draws using proper aseptic collection techniques, with appropriate labeling and specimen processing
• Perform EKG for patients as directed
• Apply bandages, slings, compression boots, and hypothermia blankets according to standards as directed by the RN
• Provide direct hygiene and comfort care including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making
• Assist patients with dressing and undressing, managing patient belongings with proper documentation
• Perform and document glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as directed
• Provide postmortem care
• Obtain and document patient weights and monitor intake and output
• Welcome patients, verify identification bracelets, and prepare patients for assessments, examinations, and procedures
• Assist with patient meals and feeding as needed
• Check inventory and restock assigned areas as directed
• Ensure room environments are prepared for admission and maintained for patient safety
• Answer call lights promptly and communicate with the RN immediately regarding any changes in patient condition
• Assist with patient transport to other departments or units as requested
• Ensure presence, functionality, and cleanliness of necessary equipment, including code carts, oxygen, and emergency medical equipment
• Identify patient population needs and modify care delivery specific to those needs, including considerations for age, culture, language, and sensory impairments
• Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration on patient care plans from admission to discharge
• Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities
• Adhere to organizational competencies and standards of behavior
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Completion of one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant program, Medical Assistant program, Patient Care Technician program, Fundamentals of Nursing program from an accredited school, or HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program; OR equivalent medical background experience such as EMT, Home Health Aide, CMA, MA, PCT, or Nursing Assistant

• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (HCP) Certification required within 60 days of entering the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or certification in phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, and blood sugar monitoring
• At least one year of PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting, or eligibility for the HMH PCT apprentice program
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Technician with successful completion of a PCT program including phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant coursework in both theoretical and clinical settings
• Medical Office Assistant Certification

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting minimum rate: $21.77 per hour
• Comprehensive benefits package for part-time employees (20+ hours per week) including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits
• Eligible for shift differentials for evening shift work
• May be eligible for performance-based incentives or bonuses
