Rochester General Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Department is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct and indirect patient care support. You will work as a member of the care delivery team, assisting licensed nurses in delivering safe, compassionate care to pediatric patients in a fast-paced emergency setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to support unit functioning
- Take and record patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level
- Assist with patient hygiene, bathing, grooming, and bed linen changes
- Support patients with mobility needs including sitting, standing, walking, and transfers
- Assist with patient feeding and nutritional needs
- Help with patient admission, discharge, and transfer procedures
- Demonstrate compassionate communication and support to patients and families
- Collaborate effectively with the care delivery team
- Perform clerical duties including chart transcription and patient record maintenance
Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am (rotating)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 years old
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, medical assistant/technician experience in a healthcare facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program
- Associate's degree
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Physical Requirements
This is a moderate clinical role requiring continual movement including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs. You will frequently bend, twist, and reach while performing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. The role involves monitoring patient status, responding to alarms and safety concerns, decision-making under pressure, and responding to emergencies. You may be exposed to infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are required. Compensation
Pay is determined by considering factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts. The posted range is a good faith representation of potential base pay and may be modified in the future. Individual rates may vary based on position details and FTE.
