This position provides direct patient care on a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) day shift, supporting licensed nurses in delivering safe, patient-centered care. You will work under nursing supervision to assist patients with activities of daily living, vital signs monitoring, intake and output documentation, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, foley care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
Responsibilities
- Implement direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and perform vital signs, intake and output monitoring
- Implement fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures
- Perform foley care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested
- Collect clinical data and information on patients and report changes in patient status to the nurse
- Assist the nurse with patient and family education
- Document all patient care activities provided
- Ensure availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs
- Participate in activities that promote safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Participate in professional development and lifelong learning
- Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
This is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
Schedule
- Full-time or part-time available
- Day shift: 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Weekend and holiday rotation required by department
Required Qualifications
You must meet at least one of the following:
- Currently enrolled in a professional or practical nursing education program and have completed or will complete within 90 days a fundamentals of nursing course
- Were a professional nursing or practical nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure examinations within the past three years
- Certified as a nursing assistant
- Current registration as a certified nursing assistant in another state that meets the requirements listed in 42 CFR 483.151 and 483.152
- Documented experience as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician within the past three years
- Proof of completion of a patient care technician training program or UAP training program in Missouri or another state that meets regulatory requirements within the last three years
- Completed a professional or licensed practical nursing program outside the United States and awaiting the licensure examination in this country
- Certification as a patient care technician
