Patient Care Technician-PCT - PRN

Mercy Hospital Springfield is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide direct patient support under the direction of an RN or LPN. In this PRN position, you will assist patients with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, support admissions and discharges, and collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver compassionate patient care.

Clinical Setting

Mercy Hospital Springfield is a regional healthcare organization serving the Springfield, Missouri area.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities including hygiene, mobility, feeding, repositioning, and comfort needs
• Monitor and record vital signs and other patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the care team
• Support patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing as assigned
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and team members to deliver high-quality patient care
• Maintain a safe, clean, and healing environment for patients
• Provide clerical and unit support, including answering phones and monitoring call lights

Advanced Patient Care Skills

Depending on training, department needs, and competency validation, you may also perform:

• Enteral tube feeding
• Blood culture collection
• Wound care and dressing changes
• IV removal
• Burn dressing changes and debridement
• Chest tube setup
• Suture tray setup
• Visual acuity testing
• Pelvic exam setup
• Whirlpool wound care treatments
• Additional clinical skills as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• One of the following: CNA certification, CPCT certification, enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum, or age 18 or older and eligible to participate in Mercy's UAP training program
• BLS certification within one month of hire
• Completion of required PCT competencies within three months of hire
• No prior experience required

Training

For candidates without prior experience, Mercy provides a comprehensive 175-hour training program that meets state requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Paramedic
• Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA)
• Previous patient care experience

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
• Reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, squatting, and gripping as part of daily patient care activities

• PRN (as needed)
• Part-time
