Patient Care Technician (PCT) – Orthopedic Unit – St. Vincent Medical Center

Mercy Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Orthopedic Unit at St. Vincent Medical Center. In this role, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of registered nurses and designated healthcare professionals, supporting patients on the orthopedic unit while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care including comfort measures, vital sign measurement, personal hygiene assistance, and mobility support
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, and ambulation
• Use therapeutic transfer techniques to mobilize patients safely while fostering independence
• Act as a liaison between patients and nursing staff, reporting changes in patient condition and concerns
• Collect and document patient data accurately and timely, including vital signs, intake and output, and changes in condition
• Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
• Participate in hand-off reports and communicate pertinent patient and departmental information
• Individualize care based on patient interests and hobbies

Required Qualifications

• Ability to clearly communicate with healthcare team members
• Ability to understand and follow directions from the healthcare team
• Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations, including falls prevention, skin breakdown prevention, suicide prevention, and environment of care
• Knowledge and demonstration of infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
• Understanding of clerical duties and office-based technology
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Competency in patient data collection and documentation
• Compassionate, relationship-based approach to patient care
• Accountability for completion of assigned tasks
• Ability to escalate concerns appropriately through the chain of command

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility, with preference for orthopedic or similar acute care settings
• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training

Schedule

• 0.4 scheduled weekly hours
• Days/Afternoons shift
• This is a collective bargaining unit position
