Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Neuro Unit. In this role, you will provide routine patient care and support services under the direction of nurses and physicians, ensuring the highest quality of patient care is maintained at all times.
Clinical Setting
You will work on the Neuro Unit at Avera McKennan Hospital, a regular full-time position with rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe and direct patient care including ambulating, bathing, positioning, feeding, and attending to other care needs
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and special needs
- Properly handle and account for patient valuables and personal items
- Greet visitors, answer inquiries, direct and assist them, take and relay messages, and assist with gifts, flowers, and mail
- Run errands for department staff
- Ambulate patients and assist them in and out of wheelchairs
- Measure intakes and outputs
- Collect specimens and transport patients as needed
- Enter diet information into the computer system and pass meal trays
- Answer telephone and operate paging system
- Attend station and direct traffic during emergencies
- Prepare requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services and coordinate appointments with respective departments
- Make outpatient appointments for discharging patients
- Requisition supplies and equipment and prepare related maintenance and repair forms
- Request services such as chaplain, social services, and pastoral care as directed
- Perform clerical duties related to admission, discharge, transfer, and death procedures
- Prepare appropriate charts and forms
- Manage interdepartmental and patient mail
- Maintain patient rooms in an orderly condition, change bed linens, and provide routine cleaning tasks
Schedule
- Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- 80 hours per 2-week pay period
- Every third weekend and holiday rotation
Compensation and Bonuses
- Pay range: $18.00 - $23.50 per hour (actual rate dependent upon experience)
- May be eligible for $750 sign-on bonus
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 16
- Ability to work the hours specified
- Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Education and Certifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification (preferred)
