Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Med Surg

Saline Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join the Medical-Surgical unit. In this full-time day shift role, you will provide essential patient care support under the direction of nursing staff, working in a patient-centered environment that emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and clear communication.

Clinical Setting

You will work on a Medical-Surgical unit at Saline Memorial Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network. The unit fosters a positive environment built on collaboration where staff members support one another to provide safe, high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording
• Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, and ambulation
• Observe and promptly report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas
• Manage the tech desk and support nursing and physician staff to optimize department throughput
• Document care and activities per unit standards
• Participate in performance improvement and required education
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred
• Six months of healthcare experience
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
• Critical thinking and decisive judgment
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment
• Rapid learning and ability to navigate multiple software systems
• Effective English communication (read, write, and speak)
• Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• SRNA (State Registered Nurse Aide) or EMT certification
• Handle with Care certification

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Day shift
• Weekends may vary

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, keyboard entry, and repetitive movements. You may need to kneel, lift, and move patients. Occasional sitting and squatting are required; running or climbing is rare. Frequent to constant near and far vision and depth perception are needed, with frequent color distinction requirements. You will have occasional exposure to biohazardous waste, chemicals, and gases/vapors/fumes, and frequent latex exposure.
