Job Description

St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Nursing Float Pool. This per diem position provides direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and organizational policies.

You will perform a variety of age-specific duties to assist in patient care, including bathing, hygiene, changing linens, obtaining and recording vital signs, lifting and ambulating patients, collecting specimens, performing electrocardiograms, applying oxygen therapy, performing urinary catheterizations and enemas, and assisting with wound care as directed by the RN. You will observe patient responses, report adverse reactions or pertinent information to the RN and physician, and anticipate patient needs while responding in a timely manner to patient and caregiver requests.

Additional responsibilities include delivering menus, preparing patients for meals, distributing food trays, feeding patients, answering phones courteously, initiating emergency procedures when necessary, assisting with patient education and discharge planning under RN supervision, inventorying unit supplies, assisting with daily cleaning of patient rooms, and performing simple maintenance tasks.

Schedule

This is a per diem position requiring a minimum of 24 hours of work within a 6-week period. You will be available for all work shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One of the following:
  • Current enrollment as a nursing student in an RN program with at least one clinical semester completed in an acute care hospital setting, OR
  • State-tested Nurse Assistant (STNA) or Health Care Assistant (HCA) certification related to acute care setting, OR
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience in a clinical setting (hospital or long-term care)
  • BLS certification by American Heart Association
  • Experience providing direct patient care
  • Computer literacy and basic computer skills
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • Basic reading, writing, and simple arithmetic skills
  • Ability to operate basic equipment and machinery
