The opportunity

Job Description

Texas Health Southwest is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Emergency Department. This is a part-time position working days in a 261-bed, full-service hospital that serves the Fort Worth area and surrounding communities. The Emergency Department is part of a facility certified as a Primary Heart Attack Center, Primary Stroke Center, and Level III Trauma Center.

You will provide direct patient care and assistance based on the plan of care and patient and family preferences. You will collect and report patient data, support admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and perform technical procedures safely while documenting care accurately. You will collaborate with nurses to adapt care for diverse populations and cultural needs, maintain a clean and safe environment, and proactively meet patient and visitor needs. You will demonstrate teamwork, flexibility, and effective communication across disciplines, participate in process improvement, adhere to safety goals, and advocate for patients.

Schedule

Part-time days, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM, 24 hours per week. Weekend and holiday requirements apply.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following upon hire:
  • PCT training program certification (TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, or accredited community college program or Texas Health Resources approved program). Certification does not need to be maintained after hire.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or military experience with medical training equivalent to EMT-Basic
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals coursework or foreign nurse degree program
  • One year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification prior to providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, maintained annually within 90 days
  • Compliance with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency

Note: Nursing students who do not complete their course of study in nursing but have completed fundamentals training, and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status, may continue in the role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.
