Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Clinical Nursing Student - Orthopedic Unit - West Hospital

Mercy Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support clinical nursing students on the Orthopedic Unit at West Hospital. In this role, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, gaining valuable clinical experience through job shadowing and hands-on care delivery appropriate to your scope of practice.

Clinical Setting

You will work on the Orthopedic Unit at West Hospital, supporting patients in an acute care environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the nurse in applying the nursing process and develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN
• Seek out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
• Provide basic patient care including comfort measures, vital signs monitoring, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses, reporting changes or concerns
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
• Document patient care information accurately and timely when applicable
• Participate in hand-off reports regarding patient and departmental needs at arrival and departure
• Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated
• Participate in patient data collection and documentation, including vital signs, intake/output, and changes in patient condition
• Assist with activities of daily living, including ambulation, feeding, hydration, nutrition, and bowel and bladder elimination
• Utilize clinical technology as applicable
• Escalate concerns appropriately through the chain of command

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program
• Completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation
• Completed first clinical rotation as a nursing student

Preferred Qualifications

• BLS certification
• Recent experience in acute care and/or long-term care facility
• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training

Schedule

• 36 scheduled hours per week
• Days/Evenings shift
