Patient Care Technician /PCT/ Anesthesia pre-op

Emory Healthcare is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support the anesthesia pre-operative team. In this role, you will work under the direction of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to provide essential patient care and observation duties that help prepare patients for surgery and ensure their comfort and safety.

Schedule

• 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of an RN or LPN
• Clean patient rooms and maintain a clean, healthy work environment
• Operate clinical equipment including bag-valve-mask devices, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart, and bedside glucose monitoring machine
• Operate converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers
• Assist with patient procedures and emergency situations as directed by RN or LPN staff
• Collect and transport patient specimens throughout the hospital
• Record patient intake and output
• Assist with patient hygiene, comfort, rest, range of motion, ambulation, transfers, diet, and elimination needs
• Observe and report significant or unusual patient information to the RN or LPN and document appropriately and timely
• Contribute to patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Assist with postmortem care
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the patient care team
• Comply with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards
• Maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies
• Participate in unit-based and system-wide performance improvement programs
• Serve as a resource and model through compliance with standards of care and departmental policies
• May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas
• Participate in orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit
• Perform other related responsibilities as required

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• One year of direct patient care experience, OR successful completion of a nursing assistant training course, OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through the State of Georgia, OR current enrollment in a nursing program with completion of 2 clinical rotations
