The opportunity

Job Description

Island Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join the Acute Care/ICU team in Anacortes, WA. In this full-time night shift role (0.9 FTE), you will provide essential support to nursing staff and patients, helping to create a positive and seamless experience for both team members and those in their care.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an acute care and intensive care unit environment, supporting the clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Answer signal lights and bells to determine patients' needs
  • Bathe, dress, and undress patients
  • Serve and collect food trays and feed patients requiring assistance
  • Transport patients to treatment units using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, or assist them to walk
  • Assist with patient ambulation
  • Drape patients for examinations and treatments, hold instruments, and adjust lights as needed
  • Assist patients to the bathroom, bedside commode, or with use of bedpan for toileting
  • Tidy and clean patients' rooms
  • Wash and dress bodies of deceased persons
  • Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer telephones
  • Take and record blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration rates, glucose levels, and food and liquid intake and output as directed
  • Report unusual findings to the nurse
  • Assist with turning and repositioning patients as needed
  • Report to the RN any abnormal vital signs, skin breakdown, decline in mentation, or other observed changes
  • Enter data into the computer system
  • Place telemetry electrodes accurately when ordered
  • Collect urine and stool specimens for lab and run guaiac testing

Required Qualifications

  • Current Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 to 6 months previous CNA experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $21.12/hr - $31.37/hr
  • Night Differential: $2.75/hr
  • Evening Differential: $2.25/hr
  • Weekend Differential: $1.50/hr
