Job Description

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Medical/Surgical/Stroke Unit. This full-time night shift position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care in a 224-bed acute care facility designated as a Certified Primary Stroke Center. You will work on a specialized unit serving patients requiring medical, surgical, and stroke care in a technologically advanced environment.

Clinical Setting

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is located in Hampton, VA and features specialized services in heart and vascular care, urologic care, advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities, and one of the state's busiest emergency departments. The facility is also home to the Orthopedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and support for independent and dependent activities of daily living
  • Monitor and record vital signs
  • Assist with patient mobility and ambulation
  • Perform phlebotomy and point of care testing
  • Conduct EKG testing
  • Remove peripheral IV lines
  • Collect specimens
  • Insert and remove foley catheters
  • Comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse
  • Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions
  • Document observations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Report any changes in patient condition to the nurse or medical staff

Schedule

  • Shift: Night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36
  • Full-time position

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and one of the following:
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program completion, or
  • Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification, or
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) certification, or
  • Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
  • Emergency Services certification including EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic, or
  • Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
  • Current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
  • AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire

  • One year of healthcare experience

Compensation

  • Base pay range: $18.93 - $27.41 hourly for full-time employment
  • Additional compensation may be available including shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities
  • Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs
