Patient Care Technician - Observation - PRN 0.3 (as scheduled) (72877)

Memorial Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Observation services on a PRN basis (0.3 FTE, as scheduled). In this role, you will support the nursing team in providing patient care while maintaining the highest standards of quality and confidentiality.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an observation unit environment, assisting registered nurses and licensed practical nurses in delivering patient care and maintaining effective communication across nursing units and hospital departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform hourly patient rounding
• Process physician orders and enter written orders into Meditech
• Maintain chart organization and answer telephones
• Coordinate patient flow and information between departments in collaboration with the charge nurse
• Assist with all aspects of patient care and unit maintenance (cleanliness, supply ordering) as assigned by the RN
• Document patient care activities in Meditech as appropriate
• Assist with patient and family teaching as needed
• Maintain supplies and equipment
• Enter daily outpatient and observation room charges
• Comply with all safety and infection control standards
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and clarify unclear communications
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families based on empathy and trust
• Promote a positive patient experience
• Assume responsibility for own behavior and seek help from appropriate resources as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (will be obtained during hospital orientation)
• Current compliance with RQI requirements
• Interpersonal skills, clerical ability, numerical and manual dexterity
• Color vision and near visual acuity
• Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics
• Ability to read, write, and perform math at a high school level

Schedule

This is a PRN (as needed) position with flexible scheduling.

Compensation and Benefits

Education, experience, and tenure may be considered when determining compensation. Memorial Health System offers an affordable, comprehensive benefit package to full-time and flex-time employees.
