Patient Care Technician - Observation - FT 0.9 (72 hrs biweekly) (72309)

Memorial Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Observation to support nursing staff in providing quality patient care. This full-time position works 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE) and operates within a continuous quality improvement environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform hourly patient rounding
• Process physician orders and enter written orders into Meditech
• Maintain chart organization and answer telephones
• Coordinate patient flow and information between departments in collaboration with the charge nurse
• Assist with all aspects of patient care and unit maintenance, including cleanliness and supply ordering, as assigned by the RN
• Document patient care activities in Meditech as appropriate
• Assist with patient and family teaching as needed
• Maintain supplies and equipment
• Enter daily outpatient and observation room charges
• Comply with all safety and infection control standards
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and clarify unclear communications
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families based on empathy and trust
• Promote a positive patient experience
• Maintain current knowledge of hospital policies and scope of practice
• Assume responsibility for own behavior and seek help from appropriate resources as needed
• Perform additional duties as necessary

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (will be obtained during hospital orientation)
• Current RQI compliance
• Interpersonal skills, clerical ability, numerical and manual dexterity
• Color vision and near visual acuity
• Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics
• Ability to read, write, and perform math at high school level

• Full-time position
• 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE)
