This is a full-time Patient Care Technician position on 3 North, supporting the Neurosurgical and Pediatrics units. You will work 0.9 FTE (72 hours biweekly) in a fast-paced hospital environment focused on continuous quality improvement.
You will assist registered nurses and licensed practical nurses in providing direct patient care while maintaining clear communication across nursing units and hospital departments. This role combines clinical support with essential clerical and administrative functions.
Responsibilities
- Perform hourly patient rounding
- Process physician orders and enter written orders into Meditech
- Maintain chart organization and answer telephones
- Coordinate patient flow and information between departments in collaboration with the charge nurse
- Assist with all aspects of patient care and unit maintenance, including cleanliness and supply ordering, as assigned by the RN
- Document patient care activities in Meditech as appropriate
- Assist with patient and family teaching when appropriate
- Maintain supplies and equipment
- Enter daily outpatient and observation room charges
- Comply with all safety and infection control standards
- Communicate effectively with team members to build productive relationships
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families based on empathy and trust
- Promote a positive patient experience
- Seek help from appropriate resources as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital policies and practices within scope
- Maintain open communication with professional staff and clarify unclear communication
- Use proper channels of authority when communicating information
- Assume responsibility for own behavior and complete all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (will be obtained during hospital orientation)
- Current RQI compliance
