Patient Care Technician-Neuro Med Surg Hp3 Part Time Nights

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Neuro Med Surg unit on the night shift. In this part-time role, you will work under the supervision of an RN to provide basic patient care activities and support the clinical team in delivering quality care to patients.

Clinical Setting

This position is located on a Neuro Medical-Surgical unit and involves direct patient interaction and care coordination.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly
• Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a polite manner using appropriate telephone etiquette and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities while functioning under stressful situations
• Use critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work as the needs of the unit, patients, and staff change
• Serve as liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments
• Perform pre-census activities and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed
• Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed

Schedule

This is a part-time position, 48 hours per pay period, working night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with alternating weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or enrollment in nursing school with at least one semester of clinical completed
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience
• Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant program or completion of a Phlebotomy course
