Patient Care Technician – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Davis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Children's Hospital is the region's only Level III NICU, serving the littlest patients with a team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, residents, pediatric subspecialists, respiratory therapists, and neonatal nutritionists available 24 hours a day. The unit also includes a Continuing Care Nursery where infants are monitored after graduating from the NICU.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety
• Monitor and accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, and other physiological parameters; promptly report significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff
• Assist with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
• Provide one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognize changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• BLS CPR certification through American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year of patient care experience (experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, or acute care)
• PCT training or CNA training

Schedule

• Employment type: Full-time
• Shift: Days
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Three twelve-hour shifts per week
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
