Rochester General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Med/Surg unit (54/5500). This is a 20-hour per week position providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of licensed nurses and RNs. You will work as a member of the care delivery team, assisting with essential patient care activities and unit operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to support unit functioning
- Take patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level
- Assist with patient hygiene, bathing, grooming, and bed linen changes
- Support patients with mobility, including sitting, standing, walking, and transfers
- Assist with patient ambulation, feeding, and lifting
- Participate in patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Perform clerical duties including transcription and maintenance of patient charts
- Demonstrate excellent communication and compassion with patients and family members
- Communicate effectively with the care delivery team and model teamwork
- For Cath Lab positions: stock rooms, handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the OR field
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 years old
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program
- Associate's degree
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Schedule
- 20 hours per week
- 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am shifts (both day and night shifts available)
Physical Requirements
- This is a moderate clinical role requiring continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs
- Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while performing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments
- High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns
- Emotional and cognitive demands include decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus
- Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation
- TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are required

Compensation
- Pay range: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
- Base pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts. Additional pay components may be eligible.
