The opportunity

Job Description

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Medical/Surgical Oncology unit on the night shift. This full-time position provides direct patient care and support with activities of daily living under the direction of the professional RN nurse.

Schedule

  • Full-time nights: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and support for independent and dependent activities of daily living
  • Obtain and record vital signs
  • Assist with patient mobility and ambulation
  • Perform phlebotomy and point of care testing
  • Conduct EKG testing
  • Remove peripheral IVs
  • Collect specimens
  • Insert and remove foley catheters
  • Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions
  • Document observations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Report any changes in patient condition to the nurse or medical staff
  • Comply with patient safety practices

Clinical Setting

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is a 176-bed Magnet status facility in Charlottesville, VA featuring all patient-friendly private rooms. The hospital offers specialized care in cancer care, heart and vascular, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and maternity services.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • One of the following: Graduate of Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services certification (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic), current enrollment in a clinical program with at least one semester completed (RN, LPN, RT, or PT), or current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire

  • One year of previous healthcare experience

Compensation

The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 to $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available, including shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
