The opportunity

Job Description

Jersey City Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Medical-Surgical Unit-I to join our nursing team on the night shift. In this part-time role, you will provide direct patient care and support Registered Nurses in delivering hands-on clinical services to patients in a medical-surgical setting. You will be a vital member of our collaborative healthcare team, helping to create a safe and welcoming environment while assisting patients with their daily needs and monitoring their health status.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, mouth care, and skin care
  • Take and monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and phlebotomy as directed
  • Provide bedside care and support to patients
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
  • Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed
  • Provide age-appropriate patient care based on physical, educational, and safety criteria
  • Maintain ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding patient care status
  • Participate in collaboration of the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program
  • CNA certificate

Schedule

  • Night shift: 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Monday through Friday
  • Every other weekend
  • Some holidays

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $22.00 - $27.45 per hour

Compensation is based on educational background, skills, and professional experience.
