Patient Care Technician – Med / Surg Observation

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the 24-bed Observation Unit at our Norfolk, VA location. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of professional nurses to provide patient care, support admissions and discharge processes, and observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions while reporting any changes to the nursing staff.

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Night shift: approximately 6pm to 6am
• Third shift

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care as delegated by professional nurses
• Support patient admissions and discharge processes
• Observe and monitor patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions
• Report any changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse
• Comply with patient safety practices under nursing direction
• Work on a 24-bed observation unit focused on medical and surgical patients

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• American Heart Association BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
• One of the following:
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program completion, or
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification, or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) certification, or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services certification (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic), or
• Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of prior healthcare experience

Compensation

• Base pay range: $18.93 - $27.41 hourly
• Additional compensation may be available including shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities
• Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs
