Patient Care Technician- KM-7 Cardiology

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for KM-7 Cardiology, a specialized unit caring for patients recovering from post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery. In this per diem, rotating shift role, you will work under the supervision of registered nurses to provide essential supportive care and assist patients in their recovery on a medical/surgical/intermediate care unit.

This position is designed for university students enrolled in a Co-op program who are seeking hands-on clinical experience. You will collaborate with the inpatient nursing team, develop core patient care competencies, and contribute directly to patient outcomes in a dynamic cardiac care environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic supportive care to patients, including specific treatments and procedures related to activities of daily living
• Perform delegated nursing tasks such as sterile dressing changes as directed by registered nurses
• Collaborate with nursing staff to determine and implement patient care plans
• Report all patient activity to the registered nurse in a timely manner

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 0-1 years of related work experience
• Patient care experience through one of the following: CNA, MA, EMT, or PCT certificate; completion of BIDMC in-house training program; Allied Health, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant candidate status; or Home Health Aide experience
• Currently enrolled in a university Co-op program
• Basic computer familiarity and ability to navigate web-based applications at a basic level

Physical Requirements

This position involves medium work, requiring the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. The role is physical in nature, requiring you to stand and move around for the majority of your shift.
