Patient Care Technician - Intermediate Care 3EN- Nights

This position supports the Intermediate Care Unit at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights on the night shift. As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff, assisting patients with activities of daily living and monitoring their clinical status.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an intermediate care unit serving patients requiring moderate-level medical and surgical care. The role involves close collaboration with RNs and LPNs to ensure patient safety, comfort, and clinical monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, and bed making under RN/LPN supervision
• Answer and respond to patient call lights promptly
• Assist with patient exercise and ambulation using correct body mechanics; maintain physical safety and comfort under nursing supervision
• Obtain and record patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks; report abnormalities to the nurse
• Perform procedures as directed by RN/LPN, including EKGs, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, and backrubs
• Collect specimens such as urine, feces, and sputum and deliver as necessary
• Document basic patient care into the electronic medical record
• Assist nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety
• Answer unit phones and effectively direct calls to appropriate parties
• Perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed

Schedule

• Full-time position, 36 hours per week
• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Mandatory orientation: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM during the week of hire

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful passage of the CNA certification exam, OR completion of an EMT or paramedic training course, OR current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association

Compensation

• Hourly pay range: $19.71 to $28.58, based on expertise and years of experience
